So, you’ve been an avid user of the streaming giant for years, or perhaps months now, but suddenly encountered some problems. Without warning, you go to begin an evening of online entertainment only to discover that you are now greeted with a warning saying that this version of the app isn’t compatible with your device. Oh no. What to do? You head to the app store to update it, but can’t, so you delete the app and go to reinstall it only to find you are greeted with another notice saying that your device isn’t compatible. Arrgh!.
Don’t panic, and don’t throw the box at the TV. Read between the lines.
Before we delve too deep into this article, I think it’s ideal to remind those familiar with Kodi (and those new to it) that it is an ever-evolving system. Because of the nature of the system many add-ons come and go, most often without warning or fanfare. The majority of the time you won’t even be aware your favourite add-on has been closed down since it will often continue to operate, but as time goes by you will start to notice fewer and fewer links are functioning. This is just because of the add-on being left and fresh links not being picked up. That is why it’s super important to remain on top of the game and check here on a regular basis for new Kodi add-on releases. Again, if your favourite addon no longer functions it is not a problem with your device or Kodi, the person behind the add-on has walked away from developing it further to keep it running
Is not compatible with this version
The current version of the app will not work, but it didn’t mention previous versions. Solution to Netflix not working on Android TV box is to simply install an older version and DO NOT UPDATE IT!
But why is this happening?
Why is Netflix not working on Android tv box?
So Netflix have evolved over time and have forgotten their roots. In their efforts to combat online piracy they might actually be enhancing it (if you are reading this Netflix, pay attention).
Netflix introduced a host of security measures to protect their content from being copied and later distributed online for free. You can’t blame them for doing so. It’s not cheap to produce quality content. But in their efforts to do this they have also blocked access to a large user base of loyal paying customers. To further complicate matters they have entered into agreements with major manufacturers to make their app available on their devices only. It would be like throwing a lock on a bowser and only allowing people with a particular model car to fill up with fuel. It’s madness, and I’ll explain why.
The biggest causes of piracy are distribution restrictions and affordability. If you make something people want unaffordable or unattainable they will acquire it other ways. Now, you can argue all you like, but I think less than $15 a month for what they offer is very reasonable. But their move to restricting distribution of their catalogue on top of regional restrictions is a ludicrous move that will surely result in more, not less piracy of their original content.
That was my rant, now how to access an older version to rid yourself of the dreaded Netflix not working on Android TV box error.
Older versions are pretty abundant online, and performing a simple search will show lots of results. Perhaps the best one we came across was from APK Mirror. They have versions going back years, and all freely available to download.
To install it the process is very simple and similar to the steps shown in this tutorial. Once done simply open and test. If you get the error try another app version.
That concludes our guide. We hope that you found it informative and helpful. Please remember to check back here on a regular basis for more guides, tips, tricks and latest news.
Now, we’ve already mentioned this, but it won’t hurt repeating it again. If you don’t yet have a VPN you really should get one ASAP. We recommend two VPN providers based on their superior quality of service and blazing fast speeds. They are ExpressVPN, arguably the fastest VPN provider around, and IPVanish, the best value for money VPN you’ll find. Both have long term discounts. The longer you pay for initially, the cheaper the service becomes. So what can you do with a VPN?
- Access services such as Netflix from different regions
- Secure your identity when browsing online
- Enjoy a safer browsing and online shopping experience through high-level traffic encryption
- and much more…
